Measure, don’t assume.
Solute exists because well-trained athletes kept bonking or cramping on hydration advice that was technically correct — for somebody else.
Where this started
Solute started when Nate, a physiologist and clinician, kept watching well-trained athletes follow textbook-correct hydration protocols and still bonk or cramp. The advice wasn’t wrong — it just assumed an average sweat profile that doesn’t describe most individual athletes. Sweat sodium concentration and sweat rate both vary enormously between people, and generic guidance can’t account for that.
He teamed up with Scott, who had spent two decades building precise, reproducible operational systems at scale, to solve the obvious next problem: individualized fueling doesn’t scale if every formula has to be worked out by hand. Scott built the formulation engine and data pipeline that turns a Sweatprint™ Test and an athlete intake into a precise, reproducible formula — the software that makes personalization a product, not a boutique service.
Our standard
“Measure, don’t assume” governs everything we build. We don’t guess your sodium losses from a population chart — we measure them. We don’t recommend an additive because it’s trending — we recommend it because your intake and results support it, and we mark what still needs stronger substantiation.
How we handle your data
Your Sweatprint™ results and intake profile are sensitive health-adjacent data. We collect only what's needed to build and refine your formula, and we don't sell athlete data. See our privacy policy for details. TODO: have counsel review data-handling language before launch.
Where we’re headed
The single sweat test is the wedge, not the whole idea. Sampling across conditions turns a snapshot into a model that predicts your needs in heat, at altitude, and over long efforts; scenario planning turns that model into a race-day plan; and adaptive re-testing keeps it current as your physiology changes. Over time that’s a living, individualized picture of how you fuel — with wearable signals like heart-rate drift as a longer-term input. See the platform for the full arc. TODO: substantiate forward-looking claims before promoting them.
What we hold ourselves to
Evidence
Every ingredient and every claim traces back to sports-science literature, not marketing copy.
Individualization
We formulate to your measured sweat data and intake profile — never to a population average.
Transparency
You see exactly what's in your formula and why, down to the milligram.
Performance
The goal is always the same: fuel that lets you train and race at your actual capacity.
