Why generic sports drinks fail high-sweat athletes

One-size-fits-none: how population-average formulas leave heavy sweaters under-fueled and light sweaters over-diluted.

Most sports drinks are formulated once, for everyone, based on averages from population studies. That's a reasonable starting point for a shelf-stable product sold at scale — and a poor fit for any individual athlete whose sweat rate or sweat sodium sits meaningfully off that average.

Two failure modes

A heavy, salty sweater drinking a generic mix is chronically under-replacing sodium relative to their losses — a plausible contributor to cramping and fatigue late in long or hot sessions. A light sweater drinking the same mix may be taking in more sodium and carbohydrate than their session calls for, which can mean unnecessary GI load without a performance benefit.

Personalization as an engineering problem

Individually formulating a drink mix for every athlete isn't feasible with a shelf-stable, one-SKU model — it requires collecting individual sweat data (sweat sodium and sweat rate via the Sweatprint™ Test), combining it with an intake profile, and running that through a formulation engine that outputs a precise, reproducible ratio of sodium, maltodextrin, and fructose, plus any supported optional additives.
